Club Information

Good Food * Good Wine * Good Company

The Society was founded in 1959 with the aim of furthering the knowledge, appreciation and enjoyment of good food and wine in congenial company. There is an event each month and so far we have held over 500 lunches, dinners, wine tastings and presentations on gastronomy and associated subjects. These events are organised by members of the Society’s committee, elected each year at our Annual General Meeting – they are mostly held in the London area, though there is usually at least one summer ‘outing’ a year.

The Society owns and maintains a reserve of fine wines, which provides an excellent opportunity for members to enjoy a range of classic and New World vintages. Entrance and membership fees and any surpluses on events go towards the replenishment of our wine reserves.

Membership is limited to 100, in order to foster an atmosphere of friendly intimacy at functions. Prospective members must attend two functions as guests of the Society before they can apply for membership. We usually plan on 30-40 participants for tastings and lunches, with up to 50 or 60 for grander occasions. There are two black-tie events a year, the Annual Dinner, most recently held at the Savile Club and Theo Randall at the Intercontinental Hotel, and the Annual General Meeting, held for some years at Imperial College. Both events feature wines from the Society’s cellar.
